Placed and Pramp
Pramp matches you with another candidate for a live video mock interview, and you take turns interviewing each other. Since July 2024 new Pramp sessions run on Aced Practice, from the company formerly called Exponent. Placed takes the other approach: an AI voice interviewer you can start at any time, with a scored report afterwards.

Side by side
Another candidate preparing for similar interviews. You swap roles halfway through a session of about an hour.
An AI voice interviewer that asks follow-ups and pushes back.
You book a slot and are matched with a peer.
None. Start a round whenever you have the time.
Rubric-based feedback from your peer. Its site lists AI feedback and transcripts on paid memberships.
A 0 to 10 score on each rubric criterion from the same grader every time. On Pro, each score is tied to the moment in your session it is based on.
Data structures and algorithms, system design, behavioral and product management, with more tracks listed in beta.
Coding, system design, behavioral, AI-assisted coding and AI fluency, plus timed online assessment practice.
Free with a monthly allotment of sessions; paid memberships add unlimited sessions. See its site for current prices.
Start without an account. A free account gets 3 scored interviews a month; Pro is unlimited.
Where Pramp is the better choice
- Practicing with a real person, including reading their reactions on video.
- Sitting on the interviewer side. Interviewing someone else shows you what a good answer looks like from across the table.
- Product management and the beta tracks it lists, which Placed does not cover.
Where Placed is
- No partner to schedule, so a 20-minute gap in your day can be a full round.
- Consistent grading. The same rubric scores every session, so two reports are comparable.
- AI-assisted coding rounds, where you are graded on how you use an assistant in a codebase. Several companies now run that format, and it is hard to run peer to peer.
Using both
Use Placed for volume and for the rounds a peer cannot easily run, then book a few peer sessions close to the interview for the human element.
Questions people ask
Is Pramp still available?
Pramp.com says that since July 2024 all new Pramp sessions are hosted on Aced Practice. Aced is the new name of Exponent, which acquired Pramp in 2021.
Is Placed peer-to-peer like Pramp?
No. On Placed the interviewer is an AI with a voice, so there is no partner to match with and nothing to schedule.
Can I use both?
Yes. They practice different things: Placed is on demand and graded the same way every time, and a peer session puts a real person on the other side.
