This page covers the terms that apply when you use Placed — what the service is, what we do with your data, how the AI works, what you can and can't do, how billing and cancellation work, and how to reach us. By creating an account or using Placed, you agree to these terms.
1. Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Placed ("the Service"), operated by the Placed team ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.
What the Service is
Placed provides AI-powered mock technical interview practice, including live streaming chat with an AI interviewer, a code editor, execution of user-written code against a third-party sandbox, and written feedback on completed sessions. Features may change at any time without notice.
Accounts
You must create an account to use most of the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your login credentials and for all activity on your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
Subscriptions & Billing
- The Service offers a free tier (5 sessions per month) and a paid Pro tier ($19/month, 50 sessions).
- Subscriptions auto-renew monthly until canceled. You can cancel at any time from the Manage Subscription link in your account.
- Billing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your payment card information on our servers.
- Unused monthly sessions do not roll over.

Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. On termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately.
2. Privacy Policy
This section explains how Placed collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Service.
Information we collect
- Account information: email address and authentication data (managed by Clerk).
- Usage data: session history, scores, feedback reports, code submissions, and chat transcripts.
- Billing information: we do not store payment card data. Stripe processes and stores all billing information. We receive only customer and subscription IDs.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and general device information for security and rate limiting.
How we use it
- To provide, operate, and improve the Service.
- To generate interview feedback and score your sessions.
- To process subscriptions and handle billing through Stripe.
- To enforce usage limits and prevent abuse.
- To communicate with you about your account, billing, and product updates.
We do not sell your data to third parties.
3. AI Disclaimer
Placed uses large language models to generate interview questions, conversational responses, and written feedback. Please understand the following before relying on any output:
- AI output can be wrong. Responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or fabricated ("hallucinated"). Do not treat AI feedback as ground truth for engineering, interview, or career decisions.
- Not professional advice. AI output is practice material — not legal advice, career coaching, or a substitute for a real interviewer, mentor, or recruiter.
- No guarantee of outcomes. Using Placed does not guarantee that you will pass any specific interview, receive any offer, or be placed at any company. "Placed" is a product name, not a promise.
- Do not submit confidential material. Do not paste code, documents, or interview questions that belong to a current or former employer, are covered by an NDA, or contain secrets (API keys, tokens, customer data). Content you submit is sent to our AI provider to generate a response.
- Scoring is heuristic. Scores across all interview tracks reflect model output on a single session. They are not certifications and should not be represented as such.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, resell, or rebuild the Service.
- Use automated systems (bots, scripts, headless browsers) to create accounts, generate sessions, or avoid usage limits.
- Submit code intended to exfiltrate data, break out of the sandbox, mine cryptocurrency, or harm our infrastructure.
- Submit content that is harassing, defamatory, sexually explicit, or violates the rights of any third party.
- Attempt to extract system prompts, jailbreak the AI, or induce it to produce content prohibited by these Terms.
- Use the Service to build a competing product or to train another AI model.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, at our sole discretion.
5. Your Content
You retain ownership of the code you write and the messages you send. You grant us a non-exclusive license to store, display, process, and transmit that content to the third-party processors listed below as necessary to operate the Service and generate feedback. We may use aggregated, anonymized data (for example, overall difficulty ratings or average scores) to improve the Service.
6. Third-Party Processors
We share data only with processors required to operate the Service:
- Clerk — authentication and user management.
- Supabase — database storage for session history and feedback.
- Anthropic — AI model provider. Chat content, code, and prompts are sent to generate responses and feedback. Anthropic does not use API content to train models by default.
- Stripe — billing and subscription management. Stripe stores all payment card data.
- Judge0 — sandboxed code execution. Code submissions are sent to Judge0 to run and return output.
- Vercel — hosting and operational analytics.
Each provider is bound by its own terms and privacy policy. Your use of the Service is also subject to those terms to the extent they apply.
7. Refunds & Cancellations
All sales are final. Placed does not offer refunds. By subscribing, you acknowledge that you have reviewed the free tier before upgrading and understand what the Pro tier provides.
Cancellation is not a refund
You can cancel your subscription at any time from Pricing → Manage subscription. Cancellation stops future charges. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period, then your account reverts to the free tier. We do not prorate or refund the remainder of the current period.
Unused sessions
Monthly sessions do not roll over and are not refundable if unused.
Narrow exceptions
We will refund a charge only in the following cases:
- Duplicate or erroneous charges — if Stripe charges you twice for the same period, or charges you after a successful cancellation.
- Service never provisioned — if you were charged for Pro but your account was never upgraded and we are unable to provision it.
- Where required by applicable law — we will honor refund rights that cannot be waived under the law of your jurisdiction.
Disputes and chargebacks
If you believe you were charged in error, email support@placed.dev before initiating a chargeback. Chargebacks filed without contacting us first may result in the associated account being permanently disabled.
Processing time
When a refund is issued under the exceptions above, it goes to the original payment method and typically appears on your statement within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
9. Data Retention & Your Rights
Retention
We retain your account data and session history for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us. After deletion, we may retain anonymized aggregate data and records required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.
Your rights
Depending on your location you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of that data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to or withdraw consent for processing (where applicable).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@placed.dev from the address on your account. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), authenticated API routes, and third-party providers with SOC 2 / ISO 27001 certifications. No system is perfectly secure, however — we cannot guarantee that your data will never be compromised. If we become aware of a breach that affects your data, we will notify you as required by law.
11. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.
12. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee the accuracy of AI output, uptime, or that the Service will meet your specific needs.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100). We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost opportunities — including interview, job, or compensation outcomes.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the Placed team is principally located, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from or related to the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in that jurisdiction, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. Nothing in this section waives mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update this page from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to registered users by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
